About Gegharkunik Regional Branch
The Gegharkunik Branch is Non-governmental Organization. The mission of the organization is to increase legal awareness of the population, and to protect the population’s rights and freedoms is to promote the building of a civil society in the Republic of Armenia.
Gegharkunik regional Non-governmental Organization “The A. D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Protection Centre” was founded in Gavar, the centre of Gegharkunik marz, in 1997.
From 2001-2006 free juristically consultations were given to more than 5575 people, free legal help to more then 125 people by our Branch and 606 applicants turned to the Branch for protecting their rights. During the same period of time the Branch was also able to give materialistic help to more then 936 people mainly by UNHCR promoting.
For supporting village communities there had been formed groups for community’s development and the means given by UNHCR to the Branch in 2002-2004 3 grunts were financed by our organization:
- Repairing of Khachagbyur-Geghakar midway 7 km (Vardenis region)
- Current reconstruction of the school of Aygut (Chamdarak region)
- Creating of informational centre and computer classroom in Kutakan’s local school (Vardenis region).
339 cases of not fixing the birth of children were found out in Vardenis region in 2002 and after 3 years of realization of human rights protection the problem was paid attention to and a solution was given to it. As a result in 2004-2005 nearly one thousand births were fixed for the children till 7 years old.
