The Syunik Regional Branch of the A.D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Centre was founded on February 3, 1997, in the city of Goris.

It was re-registered in the RA Ministry of Justice on January 21, 2000 (certificate # 167). As a separate department of a legal person, it was registered by the RA State Register on August 20, 2003 (Certificate # 01´ 000564).

The Branch mission:

The Syunik Regional Branch of the A.D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Centre is a non-profit, non-politcal organization, which has a mission to implement rights protection and elucidation activities in Syunik marz (region) and assist in the provision of fundamental human rights and freedoms through the development of the civil society.

Branch objectives are:

• Provision and encouragement of the human rights protection;

• Raise the level of the population’s legal awareness;

• Capacity building for the marz beginner NGOs.

Main directions of the Branch activities:

• Rights protection;

• Elucidation.

The Branch implements:

• Citizens’ rights protection;

• Render free legal services to the vulnerable layers of the population;

• Creates and spreads leaflets informing about the separate statutory acts of the RA and their elucidation;

• Organization of trainings on NGO management for the newly established NGOs and rendering them information services.

Branch Initiatives:

•  The Branch staff have implemented the following:

• Creation of information base regarding the emigration situation in the marz.

• Study of social-economic needs in the 44 rural communities and creation of an information base.  

• Assist in the dispersion of collaborative methods of teaching and its dissemination in the marz educational institutions.  

The Branch collaborates with:

• Local self-governing bodies and public schools of the marz 44 communities.

• Legal, educatiobal and local government departments of the Syunik marzpetaran (regional government).

• Numerous NGOs operating in the RA and the marz mass media.
